Jewish Women and Religious Freedom in Pittsburgh: What Comes Next?
On December 15, Jews for a Secular Democracy is hosting a half-day summit, “Jewish Women and Religious Freedom in Pittsburgh: What Comes Next?” which will explore the future of religious freedom in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and across the United States. Register to join us here!
This event is the final program of the year for the “Jewish Women and Religious Freedom in Pittsburgh” project which was designed to engage, amplify, and elevate the voices of local Jewish women and Jewish people of other marginalized genders around issues of religious freedom in the United States.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM:
This half-day event will feature a keynote speech, “A View From the Bench,” by The Honorable Jill Beck, Pennsylvania Superior Court, who will provide unique judicial insights on religious freedom, followed by an audience Q&A.
Judge Beck will then moderate a panel discussion with community leaders and experts, including Cantor Kalix Jacobson (Cantor, Temple Emanuel of South Hills), Jackie Perlow (Supervising Attorney, Women’s Law Project), Professor Kathleen Blee (Distinguished Professor of Sociology, University of Pittsburgh), and Carrie Wardzinski (Information specialist and Regional Organizer with Red, Wine & Blue).
Together, they will examine the challenges to religious freedom that impact reproductive rights, gender equality, LGBTQ+ rights, public education, and more.
After the panel, we invite you to join us for a Networking and Action Forum, an interactive part of the summit where you can explore volunteer opportunities for 2025, learn about impactful local initiatives, and discover how you can take meaningful action.
