As the country approaches a critical election season, communities have an opportunity to engage one of their most powerful local elected officials: the sheriff. The call will launch the Sheriff Pledge for Free & Fair Elections, a nationwide effort encouraging sheriffs to reaffirm publicly their commitment to upholding the Constitution, protecting free and fair elections, and supporting the peaceful transfer of power.
For JFASD, protecting voting rights and public safety is closely connected to protecting church-state separation. Sheriffs and other government officials must apply the law impartially and uphold the rights of all people—without allowing partisan interests, religious doctrine, or personal ideology to supersede their constitutional responsibilities.
